Crafting tips

Hi there! How's everything going with all of you? I'm sure you're all busy and having fun with your friends and school. I was thinking that it might be fun if I gave you a few of the crafting tips other Creative Girls have learned over the last couple of years. I hope these will give you some ideas of how to be a better and faster crafter.

Until next time -- have fun crafting!

Today's special tip
Always refer to the photo when working on a kit. It's easier to figure out the steps and finishing instructions. However, never feel like you have to do your project exactly like the one in the picture. Fee free to do your own thing and be creative!

Keeping things neat
If you like to make things with beads, tiny pompoms, glitter or other little craft supplies, ask Mom for old film canisters and baby food jars for storing your beads.

Find a large box or plastic bin. Decorate the outside of it and write your name on it in fun and crazy lettering. It's a great place to store all your craft supplies.

Being creative
Use coloring books or cookie cutters for fun designs and patterns.
Keeping clean
When you're crafting, remember to wear a cover-up so you don't mess up your clothes. I like to put on an oversize T-shirt or one of my dad's old shirts, putting it on backward. This way I don't have to worry about ruining my school clothes.

Always cover your work area with newspapers or plastic garbage bags.

Wrap tape, sticky side out, around your fingers to pick up spilled beads. It works great if you spill them on carpet.

Painting
Always keep your paintbrushes washed out and NEVER leave paint on them. You can used an old glass jar or a large butter tub as a washtub. Dry your brushes on a folded paper towel lying flat on your work surface.

Cleaning up
Use baby wipes to clean up mistakes, your hands and your work area. When rubber-stamping, use baby wipes to clean the stamps.

Always clean up your work area when you are finished. This will make Mom really happy!

Read labels
When crafting, always read the labels on products thoroughly and follow the instructions. The companies that make craft supplies have already tested everything and know exactly how their product should be used to get the best results.

Be safe
Keep scissors in a safe place where your little brothers or sisters can't get them. You can always ask an adult to help you or to supervise while you're using them.

Wikki Stix hint!
When crafting with Wikki Stix, cover your workspace with waxed paper. This way you won't make a mess! When you're done, fold up the paper and throw it away!
