"Pamper Yourself Silly" Slumber Party

Going to the spa for a facial or manicure is a treat for all of us! With this party idea, you can treat your daughter and several of her friends to their very own spa treatments -- in your home (and at a fraction of the cost of a real spa appointment!).

This party includes fun tips on setting up a home spa in your living room or kitchen (bring out the fluffy towels and beach chairs!), easy recipes for lip balm, lotion and an oatmeal face scrub, and a menu of spa treatments the girls can give each other.

Whether your party is just a few hours or a sleepover, you’ll hear giggles galore as the girls paint each other’s toes and tell silly fortunes as they read each others palms during hand massages. What a fun idea for a party -- easy for you, hours of fun for the kids, and affordable, too!

Enjoy,

Make a Spa!

Spas are peaceful places where people relax. To make the party room look like a spa, try this:

Roll up lots of fluffy towels. Put them in a big basket.
Set ferns, flowers and other plants around the room.
Pile up pretty pillows.
Set up beach chairs or patio chairs. Drape towels over them.
Set up a tabletop fountain.
Fix a tray with a pitcher and glasses of ice-cold water or lemonade. Put a slice of lemon in each glass to make it pretty.
Play relaxing music or a CD of nature sounds.

Silly Spa Delights

Let the guests take home the lip balm, lotion and soaps they make at the party.
Other ideas for favors are:

  • Small pumice stone
  • Nail file
  • Emery board
  • Nail brush
  • Small bottle of nail polish
  • Nail decals

Spa "Beauty Treatments"

Give your guests "beauty treatments" during your party. Set up a "station" for each one. Have your guests take turns visiting each station. Ask family members or other parents to play along and give the treatments. It's really fun when they act like the staff at a real spa!

Collect everything you need for each station on a tray or rolling cart. Here are some ideas for "beauty treatments."

Scalp Massage
Gently massage each girl's head. Pretend to "read her mind" with your fingers. Remember -- keep it funny and silly.

Hand Massage
Massage the girls' hands with lotion. Pretend to read their palms as you do. Tell them a silly fortune.

Baby Those Big Toes
Buy a tube of green facial mask gel or crème at the store. Follow the directions, but use it on the girls' feet. Give extra attention to those big toes!

Paint Nails
Have the girls take turns painting each other's fingernails and toenails. Add nail decals if you like.

Lotions & Potions

The girls can make their own flavored lip balm, lotion and beauty soap. Follow the directions below. You can find little tubes and jars at stores that sell organizing supplies. Or, buy the supplies in a kit at your craft store. Follow the kit's instructions.

Melt wax or soap in the microwave.

Lip Balm

Pour beeswax beads and oil into measuring cup.
Put cup in microwave. Heat for 30 seconds. Take cup out of microwave. Stir with craft stick.
Repeat step 2 until beads are completely melted. Be careful. Melted lip balm is hot!
Stir in flavoring one drop at a time. Stop when it smells good.
Stir in coloring powder a little at a time, until it's the right shade.

Use plastic pipette to fill tube or jar with lip balm. Be careful -- it is still hot. Fill tube or jar to the rim.

Note: If the pipette clogs, squeeze it between your fingers to push out the lip balm.

Things You'll Need

  • Pyrex measuring cup with lip for pouring
  • Wooden craft stick for stirring
  • Little tube or jar for each guest*
  • Beeswax beads*
  • Sunflower oil*
  • Coloring powder of your choice*
  • Flavoring and scent of your choice*
  • Plastic pipette for transferring hot balm into tubes*

*Life of the Party products were used for this project.

When the tubes are filled, let them set for a few minutes. Then add a drop more of lip balm.

Let the tubes set for 20 - 30 minutes. Put on lids.

Note: If lip balm gets hard, put it back in the microwave. Heat for 30 seconds, then stir it. Repeat until it is melted again.

Lotion

Things You'll Need

  • Shea butter body lotion base*
  • Lotion bottle with cap for each guest*
  • Coloring powder of your choice*
  • Scent of your choice*

*Life of the Party products were used for this project.

Fill bottle half-full with lotion base.
Add scent and color until it smells good and looks pretty. It should be a little darker than they want because more lotion will be added later.
Put the lid on the bottle. Shake well.
Add lotion base until bottle is full. Shake again.

Soap

Cut the soap base into four equal chunks. Cut one of those pieces into little pieces. They should be no bigger than 1 inch.
Put the soap pieces in the measuring cup. Put cup in microwave. Heat for 30 seconds. Take cup out of microwave. Stir with craft stick.
Repeat step 2 until soap pieces are completely melted. Be careful. Melted soap is hot!
Stir in fragrance one drop at a time. They should stop when it smells the way they want it to.
Stir in liquid coloring a little at a time. They should stop when it looks the way they want it to.
Set soap molds on a tray. Pour melted soap into molds.

Let molds set to cool and harden. Set a timer for 15 - 20 minutes. Check soap when the timer goes off.
If it is solid, gently push soaps out of molds.

Things You'll Need

  • Pyrex measuring cup with lip for pouring
  • Wooden craft stick for stirring
  • Little tube or jar for each guest*
  • Beeswax beads*
  • Sunflower oil*
  • Coloring powder of your choice*
  • Flavoring and scent of your choice*
  • Plastic pipette for transferring hot balm into tubes*
